Welcome to Invicta House
We opened our doors for the first time in June 2015 and are open year-round except during our own holidays, which we usually take between October and April. Ill health has meant that the B&B will be closed during the winter of 2023-24 to allow full recuperation and rehabilitation to be achieved; we are therefore closed to online bookings between October 1st 2023 and February 29th 2024 inclusive – but if you need overnight accommodation for a hospital appointment, please telephone us on 01408 634367 and we will try to accommodate you.
We are dog-friendly and offer two ground floor rooms with en-suite bathroom facilities; in early 2021, unable to guarantee social distancing, we closed our upstairs single room to guests - this is now kept as accommodation for family and friends only. Both of our ground floor rooms are bookable for dogs staying with their owners at no extra cost, and we do ask that you notify us at time of booking that you are bringing a dog. Please note that dogs are not permitted to be left unattended in the rooms under any circumstances. We have a dog of our own, a German Shepherd/Greyhound cross called Lexi who is not at all sociable with other dogs and needs to be kept apart from them. She is big, excitable and very strong, and will bark the house down. Despite this caveat, she is friendly towards humans and will not harm you, but she frightens most other dogs and for this reason we keep her apart. It is a requirement that you do not turn up without having previously notified us that you are bringing a dog.
Situated just 300 yards off the A9 road, we are in a perfect location for walkers, cyclists and motorists alike who may be tackling the North Coast 500 or Land's End to John O'Groats challenges; we offer ample (dry) overnight storage for bikes and camping gear and are just a few minutes' walk into the village centre.
All rooms feature Freeview TV, free Wi-Fi internet connection, hair dryer and complimentary tea, coffee and biscuit tray; the bedside lights are also fitted with USB points for recharging your phones overnight.
Golspie is an ideal base for touring the far north of Scotland, ideal for bird watching, walking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing and golf – all the outdoor activities for which the Highlands is world famous. In the summer months, there is plenty of sightseeing to do as well – the ancestral home of the Dukes of Sutherland, Dunrobin Castle, is in the village just 5 minutes in the car from Invicta House or one stop on the train which runs from our back garden – Golspie railway station is literally 30 seconds from our back garden gates! If Single Malt whisky appeals, there are a number of superb distilleries within easy reach, each brand with their own distinct character and unique palate.
It cannot be stressed too much how great the need to pre-book your accommodation in The Highlands is: the summer months frequently see all temporary accommodation in the area sell out, and the NC500 has proved exceptionally popular, especially with cyclists and walkers. It is essential to book in advance during peak season (June - September) otherwise you may struggle to find any accommodation at all. Golspie itself has seen 5 different B&B accommodations close or fail to reopen since the pandemic, resulting in a shortage of accommodation in the village. Be aware that accommodations accepting dogs in this area are very few and far between; if you're bringing a pet with you, this makes early booking even more critical.
We accept Visa & Mastercard Credit/Debit cards, American Express and cash. We do not accept cheques unless by prior arrangement, nor do we accept Eurocheques under any circumstances. We are pleased to feature on a number of independent tourism websites : Bed & Breakfast Searcher.co.uk, North Coast 500, Booking.com, Visit Scotland, Venture North and Trip Advisor - check them out at www.bedandbreakfastsearcher.co.uk, www.northcoast500.com, www.booking.com, www.venture-north.co.uk and Tripadvisor.co.uk respectively. North Coast 500 is an especially good site for planning touring holidays north of Inverness.
Welcome to the Invicta House website; we hope to see you here very soon, and that you’ll want to come back again and again. There really is nowhere quite like the Highlands of Scotland!
